Case Study 3

AyFab WeldClient:
A Steel and Aluminium Fabrication Company

Issue:
The Company had been commissioned to fabricate a large statue by the local council, As part of the construction process the council wanted local schools and organisations to visit the workshops throughout the construction phase. The Company management realised they must assess the risk to these visitors and put appropriate control measures in place.

Solution:
Smith Safety Solutions visited the workshop and, along with Company management, assessed the proposed activities, from arrival of visitors to lectures on the design and fabrication process, and workshop tours. The assessment identified a number of improvements, including additional signage for arrivals by minibus, segregated walkways and controls on the types of work permissible during tours. A Code of Conduct was also developed for visiting parties, informing tours on the health and safety risks, the control measures in place, the maximum size of tour parties and instructions for arrival and departure.
